![]() ![]() Going full retroI’ve never played Super Metroid either and I’ve had it on my Virtual Console for years now. For ourselves, we prefer the Animated Series and Rocksteady’s games. But that’s the beauty of the character: there are so many different takes on Batman that it’s not hard to find a version you do like. Especially if it means removing so many traditional elements – and any semblance of fun – and yet still resorting to a silly comic book plot filled with sci-fi contrivances and fixing someone’s vertebrae by punching it. Terror4mer GC:Personally speaking we don’t want a bit more realism in the streets of Gotham. The mention of watching a 38 year old dress up seems silly but that could be compared to the voice actors of the Animated Series and games or myself who as a 28 year old who loved roaming the rooftops of Arkham City pretending to be Batman. No comparisons should be made of the comics, games, movies, animated series or stage shows we should just enjoy that there is a character that works in all of them. Anne Hathaway is one sexy Catwoman and Bale brings his best performance as Batman. My girlfriend explained to me after The Dark Knight Rises that the trilogy is among her favourite of all time and Batman is her favourite as there are no spider bites, no scientific experiments gone wrong it’s about a guy who lost his parents in a corrupt city, wanting to make a difference and share what he fears most with his enemies. We thought that Dark Knight Rises was a triumph of a film, Bane was so superior to Batman and brought dread and chaos to the film. I’ve loved everything to do with Batman at the minute and while the games may link closer to the comic books I don’t think you can then say it’s better than films. What the films have done is brought a bit more realism to the character and the world of Gotham. I’ve also been to the live arena tour and played Arkham Asylum/City. Which Batman is yours?I’ve really enjoyed reading the GameCentral blogs and agreed with a few of them but that ended with the latest one about why Arkham City is better than Dark Knight Rises.I’m a huge Batman fan and recently I’ve rewatched Batman Begins and Dark Knight (Begins is my favourite and the dockyard scene is still my favourite as it epitomises what Batman does). The Batman games are published by Warner Bros. As long as you buy the game new you get the Catwoman download code for free. mitchell GC:It isn’t WHC as such, it’s a kind of online pass. A second opinion from GC or readers would be appreciated. ![]() This unequivocal recommendation leaves me with a dilemma.I boycotted the game on release due to the WHC, now I’m wondering is Arkham City so much better than Asylum that it would be worth putting my principles to one side to play it, especially if I’m not missing much with the Catwoman parts?Maybe the compromise would be to get the Game of the Year Edition used so that I’m not actually putting money into Activision’s pocket. In the review you said, ‘anyone who hasn’t played Batman: Arkahm City should stop reading this and do so now’. Kid’s stuffHaving seen the Batman movie on opening day I have to totally agree with you on your recent blog in that it left me a tad underwhelmed and far more warming to Rocksteady’s Arkham City iteration.Sure there were great action moments and Bale’s Batman/Bruce Wayne is the best thus far but the storytelling was vastly inferior to what Rocksteady had accomplished and that in itself gives me confidence in how video games now clearly have the potential to outpace their film equivalents. What surprised me about the movie though was it’s ridiculous 12A rating despite being pretty violent – the number of school children to adults must have been 2 to 1! Sam Worth the botherRE: Catwoman withheld content (WHC) being very short and not worth the bother (Sunday hot topic) and GC’s Dark Knight Rises review. ![]()
